Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT) and Non-FBT Items
(NCR and AONCR - September 2011)
(2000=100)

  1. CPI of Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT): National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR and AONCR were posted at their corresponding September levels of 161.1 and 177.2.

The inclement weather condition experienced during the month brought lower supply of selected vegetables in NCR and AONCR. Price increments in selected off-season fruits were likewise observed in the two areas. Moreover, the stormy weather conditions that limited fishermen’s fishing trips increased prices of selected fish species in the wet markets in NCR. These seasonal factors however did not push up prices of FBT items in NCR relative to the expected trend. In AONCR, this seasonal factor did not affect prices of FBT items.

Measured a month ago, prices of seasonally adjusted CPI for FBT items in NCR and AONCR went up to 0.5 percent in September from zero growth and 0.1 percent, respectively.

  2. CPI of Non-FBT items: National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

Compared to their previous month’s levels, the seasonally adjusted CPI of Non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR correspondingly rose to 177.7 and 173.8 in September from 176.3 and 173.4.

The lean month of September did not raise prices of non-FBT items in NCR while in AONCR, it pushed up prices of non-FBT items relative to the expected trend.

The monthly growth rate of the seasonally adjusted CPI for non-FBT items in NCR climbed to 0.8 percent from 0.1 percent. In AONCR, it moved at its last month’s rate of 0.2 percent.
