PRODUCTION

The deseasonalized palay production from October to December 2021 was 5,009 thousand metric tons, which is lower by -2.7 percent than the third quarter output of 5,147 thousand metric tons. (Table 1)

This quarter’s performance when deseasonalized, was higher by 1.2 percent than the output in the same quarter of the previous year. (Figure 1 and Table 1)

PRICES

For October to December 2021, the deseasonalized farmgate price of palay at PhP 16.65 per kilogram went up by 1.3 percent from the preceding quarter’s price of PhP 16.44 per kilogram. On the contrary, a decrease of -9.5 percent was noted compared with its previous year’s  same period farmgate price of PhP 18.39 per kilogram. (Figure 2 and Table 1)

This quarter's deseasonalized wholesale price of rice at PhP 37.92 per kilogram recorded an increase of 0.9 percent from the preceding quarter’s wholesale price of PhP 37.60 per kilogram. Similarly, it registered an increase of 0.7 percent compared with its previous year's price quotation of PhP 37.65 per kilogram. (Figure 3 and Table 2)

In the fourth quarter of 2021, the seasonally adjusted retail price of rice at PhP 42.92 per kilogram recorded an increase of 1.3 percent from the previous quarter’s retail price of PhP 42.39 per kilogram. Likewise, the current quarter’s seasonally adjusted retail price went up by 3.2 percent from the same period of 2020 at Php 41.57 per kilogram. (Figure 4 and Table 2)
