CMWPI in NCR picked up at a slower rate in September 2023
The year-on-year growth rate of CMWPI in NCR slowed down to 2.2 percent in September 2023 from 5.7 percent in August 2023. In September 2022, its annual rate was registered at 10.5 percent. (Figure 1, and Tables A and 2)
The deceleration in the annual growth rate of CMWPI was mainly caused by the lower annual increase of concrete products and cement at 1.8 percent in September 2023 from 7.7 percent in August 2023. Moreover, the annual increments in the indices of the following commodity groups also exhibited downward trend during the month:
a. Sand and gravel, 0.9 percent from 2.2 percent;
b. Hardware, 5.5 percent from 6.9 percent;
c. Plywood, 3.6 percent from 4.5 percent;
d. Lumber, 1.9 percent from 4.2 percent;
e. G.I. sheet, 4.5 percent from 16.4 percent;
f. Reinforcing and structural steel, 1.5 percent from 3.5 percent;
g. Doors, jambs, and steel casement, 0.9 percent from 5.1 percent;
h. Electrical works, 5.8 percent from 6.2 percent;
i. Plumbing fixtures and accessories/waterworks, 2.1 percent from 3.2 percent; and
j. Painting works, 6.3 percent from 10.3 percent.
On the other hand, higher annual growth rate was observed in the index of tileworks at 0.9 percent in September 2023 from 0.5 percent in August 2023. The index of PVC pipes recorded an annual increase of 0.9 percent during the month from an annual drop of 5.1 percent in the previous month. Furthermore, a slower annual decline was recorded in the index of fuels and lubricants at 2.4 percent in September 2023 from 6.6 percent annual drop in August 2023.
The indices of asphalt and machinery and equipment rental had zero percent annual rates during the month, while the index of glass and glass products recorded an annual decline of 0.2 percent for the fifth consecutive month. (Table 2)
