Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT) and Non-FBT Items
(NCR and AONCR - December 2009)


  1. CPI of Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT): National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

    The seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR and AONCR correspondingly went up to 156.8 and 168.7 in December from their respective last month’s levels of 156.3 and 167.5.

    Seasonal factor such as the on-going harvest of palay in selected province generally pushed down prices of FBT items in the two areas relative to the expected trend.

    Compared with November 2009, the monthly growth of the seasonally adjusted CPI for FBT items in NCR was higher at 0.3 percent in December from -0.1 percent in November while that for AONCR decelerated to 0.7 percent from 1.3 percent.

  2. CPI of Non-FBT items: National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR increased respectively to 162.8 and 161.8 in December from their corresponding November levels of 161.8 and 160.5.

Seasonal factors such as bigger demand for selected goods during the holiday season did not raise prices of non-FBT items in NCR. This seasonal factor however, pushed up prices of non-FBT items in AONCR relative to the expected trend.

On a monthly basis, increments In the prices of seasonally adjusted CPI for non-FBT items in NCR slowed down to 0.6 percent from 0.7 percent while that for AONCR was higher at 0.8 percent from 0.4 percent.
