Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT) and Non-FBT Items
(NCR and AONCR - June 2005)

  1. CPI of Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT): National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

    The seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR and AONCR correspondingly went up to 120.0 and 124.5 in June from their respective May levels of 119.3 and 124.2.

    Bigger demand of selected food items brought about by the opening of classes generally pushed up prices of FBT items in the two areas relative to the expected trend.

    On a monthly basis, prices of seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR grew by 0.6 percent in June from zero growth in May. Meanwhile, the increase in prices of seasonally adjusted CPI for FBT items in AONCR at 0.2 percent was slower than the 0.6 percent registered last month.

  2. CPI of Non-FBT items: National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR posted at their corresponding June levels of 137.9 and 133.2 were higher than their respective last month?s levels of 136.9 and 133.0.

Higher demand for school supplies, clothing and footwear items brought about by the opening of classes along with the tuition fees hikes observed in selected regions including NCR pulled up prices of non-FBT items in the two areas.

Compared with last month, the month-on-month inflation of the seasonally adjusted CPI for non-FBT items were recorded at 0.7 percent in NCR and 0.2 percent in AONCR in June. These were however, slower than their respective May rates of 0.8 percent and 0.5 percent.
