Seasonally Adjusted Palay/Rice Production and Prices, January to March 2024
PRODUCTION
In the second quarter of 2020, the seasonally adjusted palay production increased by 7.1 percent quarter-on-quarter. Production was up to 4,834 thousand metric tons, from 4,512 million metric tons in the first quarter of 2020. (Table 1)
Compared with the production in the same period of previous year, this quarter’s deseasonalized production was higher by 6.9 percent. (Figure 1 and Table 1)

PRICES
For this quarter, the deseasonalized farmgate price of palay at PhP 18.45 per kilogram went up by 13.2 percent from the first quarter’s price of PhP 16.30 per kilogram. This was also higher by 2.7 percent than the previous year’s record of PhP 17.97 per kilogram. (Figure 2 and Table 1)

The registered wholesale price of rice for this quarter increased to PhP 39.04 per kilogram or by 4.1 percent from the first quarter’s quotation of PhP 37.51 per kilogram. On the other hand, it went down by 0.8 percent from the previous year’s same quarter record of PhP 39.35 per kilogram. (Figure 2 and Table 2)

The retail price of rice at PhP 42.79 for this quarter went up by 3.4 percent from its level in the previous quarter. However, this was lower by 1.9 percent than the previous year’s same quarter record of PhP 43.63 per kilogram. (Figure 4 and Table 2)
