Rice and Corn Stocks Inventory, January 2010

RICE STOCK

  • The January 1, 2010 total rice stock inventory was estimated at 2.63 million metric tons. This was 9.3 percent lower than previous month’s level but 2.3 percent higher than last year’s record.
  • Stock inventories in all sectors recorded stock drawdowns from last month’s levels. Stocks in the households were lower by 11.7 percent, and those in commercial warehouses and NFA depositories went down by 4.1 percent and 8.4 percent, respectively.
  • Compared to last year’s levels, stock inventories in the households went down by 5.7 percent. In contrast, stocks in NFA depositories, of which 64 percent were imported rice were higher by 13.0 percent. Stocks in commercial warehouses also grew by 4.3 percent.
  • The total rice stocks would be enough for 75 days. Stocks in NFA depositories would be good for 28 days, while those in commercial warehouses would be good for 13 days. Household stocks would last for 34 days.

CORN STOCK

  • The total corn stock as of January 1, 2010 reached 254.4 thousand metric tons. This was 6.7 percent lower compared to last  month’s level but 28.7 percent higher than last year’s record.
  • Compared to last month’s levels, volume of stocks held in the households was lower by 16.0 percent. In commercial warehouses, stocks were lower by 13.2  percent. On the other hand, stocks in NFA depositories increased by 10.6 percent.
  • Compared to last year, stocks in the households and in commercial warehouses were down by 19.1 percent and 16.8 percent, respectively.
  • Of this month’s total corn stocks, 25 percent were with households, 39 percent with the commercial warehouses, while 36 percent were with the NFA depositories.
