· Producer Price Index (PPI) registers slower growth
The Producer Price Index (PPI) for the manufacturing industry went up by 1.2 percent in August 2007. Thirteen (13) of the 20 major sectors reported price increases led by publishing and printing and basic metals with two-digit growth of 20.9 percent and 13.1 percent, respectively. On the other hand, seven (7) major sectors registered year-on-year decreases in producer price, with two-digit decreases in growth reported by furniture and fixtures (-14.9%) and miscellaneous manufactures (-10.4%). Refer to Tables 1 and 1-A.
However, PPI on a monthly basis slightly decreased by 0.4 percent in August 2007 from its previous month's (revised) growth of 0.1 percent. This was due to the price decreases observed in ten (10) major sectors namely: non-metallic mineral products, footwear and wearing apparel, petroleum products, machinery excluding electrical, paper and paper products, transport equipment, basic metals, fabricated metal products, food manufacturing and rubber products. Refer to Tables 1 and 1-B.
