Province of Palawan Records the Highest Share of 35.1 Percent in the Economy of MIMAROPA Region from 2018 to 2020

13 December 2021 – Calapan City. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) released for the first time the Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) of MIMAROPA Region for years 2018 to 2020. The release covered five provinces and one highly urbanized city (HUC), namely: Province of Marinduque, Province of Occidental Mindoro, Province of Oriental Mindoro, Province of Palawan, Province of Romblon, and City of Puerto Princesa.

For the period 2018 to 2020, the results showed that the Province of Palawan had the biggest average share of 35.1 percent, with around 130.57 billion pesos of the 371.64 billion pesos regional economy of MIMAROPA.  This was followed by the Province of Oriental Mindoro with an average share of 26.7 percent, and the city of Puerto Princesa with an average share of 12.8 percent. Meanwhile, the Province of Occidental Mindoro and Province of Romblon recorded average shares of 12.5 percent and 7.3 percent, respectively. The Province of Marinduque registered the least average share of 5.5 percent during the period 2018 to 2020. (Figure 1 and Table 1).

MIMAROPA Region, along with Central Visayas and Northern Mindanao, was selected as one of the pilot regions for the compilation of PPA starting 2021.

The results covering the period 2018 to 2020 are consistent with the annual regional accounts released on 29 April 2021.
