PSA Personnel and Stakeholders participate in the Consultation Workshop and Validation of the 2018 PPA Benchmark Estimates for NCR at PSA Headquarters in Quezon City.

On 04 July 2024, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) organized a Consultation Workshop with Stakeholders and Validation of the 2018 Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) Benchmark Estimates for the 16 Highly Urbanized Cities (HUCs) and one municipality in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Together with PSA personnel, Stakeholders from the local government units and regional line agencies of NCR actively participated in the assessment of the accuracy and reasonableness of the initial 2018 Gross Domestic Product (GDP) estimates of their cities. Ms. Elgie Gulane A. Rosenblad, Officer-in-Charge, of the Subnational Economic Accounts Division (SEAD), provided an overview of the data used during the estimation process and the activities undertaken to generate the benchmark GDP estimates for 2018.

Moreover, the activity became an avenue for PSA and its Stakeholders to discuss relevant concerns and challenges in the compilation of PPA, specifically on data support, data harmonization, and data privacy.

Towards the end of the workshop, the Stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening data support for the generation of the 2018 to 2023 PPA for NCR, which is scheduled for release in December 2024. The comments, suggestions, and interventions gathered from Stakeholders during the consultation and validation activity will serve as inputs in the series of review of the PSA in firming up the estimates.

Representatives from the City Government of Pasig discusses their observations on the initial 2018 GDP of the city.

The SEAD of the Macroeconomic Accounts Service, in collaboration with the PSA Regional Statistical Services Office and Provincial Statistical Offices of NCR, spearheaded the compilation of PPA to support its institutionalization by 2025. The PPA aims to provide timely and reliable data on the economic performance of provinces and HUCs in the country for a more evidence-based local level planning and policy interventions.
