HIGHLIGHTS

As of 01 June 2019, the updated palay and corn production for April-June 2019 based on standing crop may decline from the April 2019 round estimates.

PALAY

  • The palay production for April-June 2019 based on standing crop may decrease to 3.86 million metric tons, 0.9 percent below the April 2019 round estimate of 3.89 million metric tons. Palay production may also be lower by 5.6 percent from its previous year's level of 4.09 million metric tons (Figure 1). ln terms of harvest area, it may contract by 18.33 thousand hectares from its level during the same period of 2018 of 932.79 thousand hectares. Yield per hectare may decline by 3.7 percent, from its previous year's level of 4.38 metric tons.

  • Of the 914.46 thousand hectares updated standing crop, 89.2 percent have been harvested.
  • By stage of development, more than hall (54.7%) of the 413.05 thousand hectares standing crop were at vegetative stage, 24.3 percent at reproductive stage, and 20.9 percent at maturing stage.

CORN

  • Based on standing crop, corn production for April-June 2019 may decline to 1.15 million metric tons or by 1.5 percent from the April round estimate of 1.17 million metric tons. Compared with the corn production in the same period of the previous year of 1.28 million metric tons, the April-June 2019 corn production.may be lower by 10.2 percent. Also, harvest area may decrease to 374.84 thousand hectares, from 392.36 thousand hectares in 2018. Moreover, yield per hectare may decline to 3.08 metric tons, from 3.27 metric tons level in 2018.

  • Of the 374.84 thousand hectares updated standing crop, 77.9 percent have been harvested.
  • By stage of development, 69.7 percent of the 652.41 thousand hectares standing crop were at vegetative stage, 17.1 percent at reproductive stage, and the remaining 13.2 percent were at maturing stage.
