HIGHLIGHTS
Palay and corn production from April to June 2021 may increase based on data on standing crop as of 01 May 2021, from the estimated production of palay and corn in the period April to June 2020.
PALAY
1. Based on standing crop as of 01 May 2021 (updated), the estimated palay production for the period of April to June 2021 may increase to 4.24 million metric tons or by 2.9 percent, from its estimate of 4.13 million metric tons in the same period of 2020. The updated estimate of palay production for the period April to June 2021 as of 01 May 2021 is higher by 0.3 percent from its estimate of 4.23 million metric tons as of 01 April 2021. 2. Harvest area may decrease by -0.8 percent, from 955.84 thousand hectares in 2020. Yield per hectare may increase to 4.47 metric tons, from 4.32 metric tons in the same period of previous year. (Table 1)
3. About 621.39 thousand hectares or 65.5 percent of the updated standing crop have been harvested. (Tables 1 and 2)
4. As for the farmer's planting intentions for April to June 2021, 307.86 thousand hectares or 35.1 percent of the perceived area have been actually planted. (Table 3)
5. Of the total area for standing palay, which is to be harvested for July to September 2021, 33.6 percent were at the vegetative stage, 34.0 percent at the reproductive stage, and 32.4 percent at the maturing stage. (Table 4 and Figure 2)

CORN
1. The probable corn production for April to June 2021, based on standing crop as of 01 May 2021, may increase to 1.453 million metric tons or by 7.2 percent, from its estimate of 1.355 million tons in the period April to June 2020. The updated estimate of corn production for the period of April to June 2021 as of 01 May 2021 is higher by 0.1 percent from its estimates of 1.452 million metric tons as of 01 April 2021. (Table 5 and Figure 3)
2. Harvest area may increase to 408.03 thousand hectares, from 391.68 thousand hectares in 2020. Yield per hectare may increase to 3.56 metric tons from the 3.46 metric tons in the same period of previous year. (Table 5)

3. About 202.43 thousand hectares or 49.6 percent of the updated standing crop have been harvested. (Tables 5 and 6)
4. Around 283.04 thousand hectares or 33.2 percent of the planting intentions for April to June 2021 crop have been realized. (Table 7)
5. Of the total area of 484.12 thousand hectares of standing crop for the July to September 2021 harvests, 58.9 percent were at the vegetative stage, 22.4 percent at the reproductive stage, and 18.7 percent at the maturing stage. (Table 8 and Figure 4).
