HIGHLIGHTS

Palay and corn production from April to June 2022 may increase based on data on standing crop as of 01 May 2022, compared with the estimated production of palay and corn during the period of April to June 2021.

PALAY 

1. Based on standing crop as of 01 May 2022, the updated palay production for the period of April to June 2022 may increase to 4.23 million metric tons or by 1.4 percent, from its estimate of 4.17 million metric tons in the same period of 2021. On the other hand, the updated estimate of palay production for the period of April to June 2022 as of 01 May 2022 is lower by -0.9 percent from its estimate of 4.27 million metric tons as of 01 April 2022. (Table 1 and Figure 1)

2. The estimated harvest area for the period of April to June 2022 may increase to 954.27 thousand hectares or by 0.6 percent, from 948.43 thousand hectares in the same period of 2021. Likewise, yield per hectare may increase to 4.44 metric tons, from 4.40 metric tons in the same period of the previous year. (Table 1)

3. About 655.21 thousand hectares or 68.7 percent of the 954.27 thousand hectares updated area of standing crop have been harvested as of 01 May 2022. (Tables 1 and 2)

4. Of the updated harvested area based on standing crop, the actual production was registered at 2.99 million metric tons as of 01 May 2022. (Table 2)

5. Of the total area of standing palay yet to be harvested as of 01 May 2022, 3.5 percent were at the vegetative stage, 24.3 percent at the reproductive stage, and 72.1 percent at the maturing stage. (Table 3 and Figure 2)

CORN

1. The estimated corn production for April to June 2022 may increase to 1.48 million metric tons or by 3.2 percent based on standing crop as of 01 May 2022, from its estimate of 1.44 million metric tons in the period of April to June 2021. The updated estimate of corn production for the period of April to June 2022 as of 01 May 2022 was lower by -0.2 percent from its estimate of 1.49 million metric tons as of 01 April 2022. (Table 4 and Figure 3)

2. Harvest area for the period of April to June 2022 may increase to 418.13 thousand hectares, from 407.83 thousand hectares in the same period of 2021. Yield per hectare may increase to 3.55 metric tons from 3.52 metric tons in the same period of the previous year. (Table 4)

3. About 227.56 thousand hectares or 54.4 percent of the 418.13 thousand hectares updated area of standing crop have been harvested as of 01 May 2022. (Tables 4 and 5)

4. Of the updated harvested area based on standing crop, the actual production was recorded at 881.37 thousand metric tons as of 01 May 2022. (Table 5)

5. Of the total area of 190.57 thousand hectares of standing crop yet to be harvested as of 01 May 2022, 7.1 percent were at vegetative stage, 37.9 percent at reproductive stage, and 54.9 percent at maturing stage. (Table 6 and Figure 4).
