HIGHLIGHTS

Palay and corn production from October to December 2021 may increase based on data on standing crop as 01 November 2021, from the estimated production of palay and corn in the period October to December 2020.

PALAY 

1. The estimated palay production for October to December 2021 may increase to 7.46 million metric tons or by 1.0 percent based on standing crop as of 01 November 2021, from its estimate of 7.39 million metric tons in the period October to December 2020. The updated estimate of palay production for the period of October to December 2021 as of 01 November 2021 was lower by -0.9 percent from its estimate of 7.53 million metric tons as of 01 October 2021. (Table 1 and Figure 1)

                                                     

2. The estimated harvest area for the period of October to December 2021 may decrease to 1,796.77 thousand hectares or by -0.9 percent, from 1,812.73 thousand hectares in the same period of 2020. Yield per hectare may increase to 4.15 metric tons, from 4.08 metric tons in the same period of the previous year. (Table 1)

3. About 1,028.21 thousand hectares or 57.2 percent of the updated standing crop have been harvested. (Tables 1 and 2)

4. As for the farmer’s planting intentions for October to December 2021, 377.48 thousand hectares or 32.1 percent of the perceived area have been actually planted. (Table 3)

5. Of the total area of 1,140.55 thousand hectares of standing crop for January to March 2022 harvest, 34.7 percent were at the vegetative stage, 21.4 percent at the reproductive stage, and 43.9 percent at the maturing stage. (Table 4 and Figure 2)

                                                               

CORN

1. Based on standing crop as of 01 November 2021, the updated corn production for the period of October to December 2021 may increase to 2.13 million metric tons or by 28.8 percent, from its estimate of 1.65 million metric tons in the same period of 2020. The updated estimate of corn production for the period October to December 2021 as of 01 November 2021 is lower by -0.5 percent from its estimate of 2.14 million metric tons as of 01 October 2021. (Table 5 and Figure 3)

                                                          

2. Harvest area for the period of October to December 2021 may increase to 664.30 thousand hectares, from 561.83 thousand hectares in the same period of 2020. Yield per hectare may increase to 3.20 metric tons from the 2.94 metric tons in the same period of the previous year. (Table 5)

3. About 276.52 thousand hectares or 41.6 percent of the updated standing crop have been harvested. (Tables 5 and 6)

4. Around 227.57 thousand hectares or 33.4 percent of the planting intentions for October to December 2021 have been realized. (Table 7)

5. Of the total area for standing corn, which is to be harvested on January to March 2022, 40.2 percent were at the vegetative stage, 28.2 percent at the reproductive stage, and 31.6 percent at the maturing stage.
