Philippine Statistics Authority Board Approves Modifications in the System of Designated Statistics

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Board approved on 11 May 2021 the modifications in the System of Designated Statistics (SDS). The SDS is a dynamic system that allows for modifications to respond to changing needs and priorities, and to emerging capabilities of agencies in the Philippine Statistical System.

The modifications include changes/improvements in the attributes of the existing designated statistical activities of the PSA, particularly on agriculture, trade and industry, and price statistics. The modifications also include designation/addition of statistical indicators.

The Interagency Committee (IAC) on Agriculture and Fishery Statistics, IAC on Trade and Industry Statistics, and IAC on Price Statistics endorsed the modifications which have been found to be compliant with the criteria for modification of designated statistics. PSA Board Resolution No. 02, series of 2021 was issued approving the changes/updates in the attributes of the following designated statistical activities:

With these modifications, the SDS now covers 67 designated activities/statistics from the previously listed 59 activities/statistics, distributed among 19 agencies, per Executive Order (EO) No. 352 and subsequent PSA Board Resolutions on SDS modifications. These include four censuses, 23 surveys, 19 administrative data systems, five derived data systems, and 16 statistical indicators.

EO No. 352 otherwise known as “Designation of Statistical Activities that will Generate Critical Data for Decision-Making of the Government and the Private Sector” was issued in July 1996 to identify and designate the most critical and essential statistics required for social and economic planning/analysis. The SDS identifies the title of designated statistical activity or statistics, implementing agency, frequency of conduct, geographic disaggregation, and schedule of data dissemination.
