Seasonally Adjusted Palay/Rice Production and Prices, January to March 2024
PRODUCTION
The seasonally adjusted palay production for the third quarter of 2020 was 5,140 thousand metric tons, 6.4 percent higher than the preceding quarter’s output of 4,832 thousand metric tons. (Table 1)
Year on year, this quarter’s performance when deseasonalized was higher by 677 thousand metric tons or 15.2 percent compared with the previous year’s same quarter level of 4,463 million metric tons. (Figure 1 and Table 1)

PRICES
The seasonally adjusted farmgate price for palay in the third quarter of 2020 dropped to PhP 17.42 per kilogram or by 5.2 percent, from PhP 18.38 per kilogram in the previous quarter. In contrast, it was higher by 4.9 percent than the previous year’s same period record of PhP 16.60 per kilogram. (Figure 2 and Table 1)

The recorded wholesale price of rice for this quarter decreased to PhP 38.07 per kilogram or by 2.5 percent from the second quarter’s quotation of PhP 39.04 per kilogram. Relatively, it was lower by 0.1 percent from the previous year’s same quarter record of PhP 38.09 per kilogram. (Figure 2 and Table 2)

For this quarter, the deseasonalized retail price of rice was at PhP 42.02 per kilogram, down by 1.9 percent from the PhP 42.83 per kilogram in the previous quarter, while down by 0.3 percent from the PhP 42.14 per kilogram in the same period a year ago. (Figure 4 and Table 2)
