Seasonally Adjusted Palay/Rice Production and Prices, October-December 2019

PRODUCTION

The seasonally adjusted palay production in the fourth quarter of 2019 was 4,864 thousand metric tons, higher by 6.1 percent or 281 thousand metric tons than the preceding quarter’s output of 4,583 thousand metric tons. (Table 1)

Year on year, this quarter’s performance when deseasonalized was higher by 4.2 percent from the level a year ago of 4,668 thousand metric tons. (Table 1)

PRICES

The seasonally adjusted farmgate price of palay in  the fourth quarter of 2019, which was registered at P16.27 per kilogram, is slightly lower by 1.7 percent than the third quarter’s level of P16.55 per kilogram. On an annual basis, farmgate price was 23.7 percent lower than the previous year’s same quarter quotation of P21.31 per kilogram. (Table 1)

During the quarter, the wholesale price of rice was P38.04 per kilogram, lower by 0.1 percent than the preceding quarter’s record of P38.08 per kilogram. Likewise, it went down by 7.4 percent from its price of P41.10 per kilogram in the same period in 2018. (Table 2)

Similarly, the retail price of rice in the fourth quarter of 2019 at P41.85 per kilogram went down by 0.5  percent  from  the  previous  quarter’s  quotation  of P42.05 per kilogram and by 11.2 percent from the same period in 2018 record of P47.15 per kilogram. (Table 2)
