With the continuous commitment and efforts to improve the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) as an essential tool towards nation building,  the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) recently facilitated the 2022 CBMS Review and Assessment in Ion Hotel at Baguio City. The said event was conducted on a hybrid modality.

Among the participants of this activity are the key personnel and officials dedicated for CBMS in the regional and provincial offices from the Cordillera Administrative Region headed by Regional Director Villafe P. Alibuyog.

Undersecretary Dennis S. Mapa, Ph.D. was also present in the workshop  and stressed that more policy makers are getting convinced on the usefulness of CBMS. Thus, the PSA has an opportunity to expand the coverage of the CBMS moving forward in the next synchronized round tentatively scheduled  in 2025.

Relative to the richness and value of the CBMS data especially for an evidence-based decision-making, policymaking, program planning implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, conducting a thorough review and assessment is indeed necessary for the improvement and sustainability of community-based programs like CBMS. Aside from revisiting experiences of the focal persons in the field, this activity also benefits the PSA, as the lead implementing agency, in identifying areas where CBMS can be improved and strengthened.

CBMS, as a participatory approach, provides vast opportunities for a comprehensive community development and ensures responsiveness to the changing needs of the people.
